![]() ![]() There's a lot of head jumping that can really be jarring (and not in a good way). I believe the casual term used in writing circles is head jumping. In the middle of paragraphs (at times it seems a sentence away from the other) she switches character point of views. There are no scene breaks, no indicators. That is how she presents her characters' point of views. In all the books I've read by Trevion, there's one thing that really disrupts the flow of her stories. When the story reached that point, I wanted it to go there and it didn't keep me in a perpetual state of smut. But thank gawd! With Dead or Alive, there was a great build-up a realistic, yet passionate slow burn between the characters that unfurled nicely. ![]() Is it going to be a fade to black or twenty pages of sex scenes? Is it going to be a few lines of dialogue, five pages of sex scenes, two more lines of dialogue.wash, rinse and repeat until the end? Will it be overly vulgar or corny to the point of unintended humor? I tense, I literally tense at the prospect of entering into something that could completely take me out of the story. Most times, I read a book and as soon as the sex scene pops I brace myself. One more thing, a big thing with romance and erotica that drives me up the x. Their attraction to each other was believable and engrossing. I could really envision them and see and feel their chemistry. The characters were penned well, by description, idiosyncrasies and voice. In storytelling I guess a bit of lag is necessary to connect dots and move the story forward in a semi-believable way. There was a bit of a lag around the 34% mark, but not too long and it helped to set up things later in the story. It had just the right does of comic relief in between impossibly grim circumstances. What I loved about the story, was the banter between the main characters. This tale is part suspense, a bit of mystery, a healthy helping of passion and romance and much needed comic relief. Though they doubt each other's true intentions at times, an unexpected attraction develops between them and a bond deepens-one they both fight hard to resist until they absolutely can't. Things get pretty crazy as they take off by air, land and sea evading cops, obsessed fans, suspect allies and worried family members. After the gavel comes down and final judgment is rendered on his guilt or innocence, Remy takes his fate into his own hands, fleeing the courtroom and dragging Violet with him as a hostage. Remington "Remy" Archibald is an accused murderer desperate to clear his name after being imprisoned for a crime he claims he didn't commit. Violet Chambers is a broadcast journalist trying to make a name for herself. However I don't need a book to be perfect to thoroughly enjoy it! It's not a perfect ten, but not many books are. This book had suspenseful moments, passion, quite a few laughs and plenty of heart. Burns previous offerings and having read the synopsis for this story when it first went live for presale, I gladly one clicked it, knowing it would be money well spent. ![]()
